Fathers 4 Justice campaigner Simon Anderton is due to appear in court, Northumbria police have said.
Not for protesting without wearing a ridiculous superhero costume, but for causing a danger to road users while he sat atop the Tyne bridge earlier this week. Read full story
High Level Bridge gets a fresher lick of paint

The view along the Tyne from the High Level Bridge is amongst the favourites of Newcastle and Gateshead residents. The sight of the bridge from within, despite millions of pounds spent on it, is an entirely different matter.
Since the bridge re-opened on 2nd June, taggers have been busily undoing the last three years of restoration. Now, less than three weeks after it was officially re-opened, graffiti litters the internal walls. Read full story
UPDATE - Tyne Bridge protest ends

Real Fathers 4 Justice activist Mike Anderton has ended his Tyne Bridge protest over 60 hours since it began on Sunday.
The protest ended around 8pm tonight when Mike Kelly, a spokesman for RFFJ ordered Anderton down following growing concerns about his health. Read full story

UPDATE - Tyne Bridge protest reaches third day

Simon Anderton’s third day atop the Tyne Bridge seems to be having the desired effect of getting Fathers 4 Justice talked about, albeit not necessarily in the way the protester hoped.

Petrol thefts increase on Tyneside

Although last night’s national news reported of petrol stations selling fuel for up to £2 per litre, the situation hasn’t become so apocalyptic in Tyneside. However high prices at the pump are being blamed for a rise in fuel thefts from garages in the region.
An investigation by the Chronicle has revealed that in the first four months of 2008, reports of fuel thefts from forecourts have increased by 49%. Read full story
