Gold pedalling in Gateshead and Tyneside

The Tour of Britain makes its first visit to the region on Friday, and with it arrive two Olympic Gold medal winners.
Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas, part of GM’s winning team in the team pursuit category, as well as Stockton’s bronze medallist Chris Newton and 93 other riders will compete during stage six of the eight stage event, between Darlington to Gateshead.
There’s 100 miles of road along the route so while it’s hardly the most direct route, there’ll be plenty of photo opportunities to be had in Bedlington, Seaton Sluice, Whitley Bay, North Shields and on to the Baltic at Gateshead Quays.
For more details on the course, see the Tour of Britain website.
