Newcastle and Gateshead celebrate SAMA

The temperature may be verging towards the wrong side of zero and all, but where culture is concerned things are getting hotter.
For the second year running, Newcastle and Gateshead will play host the South Asian Music and Arts festival, or SAMA at it’s easier remembered.
There’ll be workshops, exhibitions and film screenings during this week-long event that aims to fuse together the most exciting mixture of British and international culture.
On Monday, the festival will begin with Nritarutya Dance Company at Dance City and will be followed by an abundance of Eastern inspired delights all week long.
The night to etch in the pocket book for all you dancing fans however, is the Nitin Sawhney Sound System at Northumbria University on Saturday 11th October. Bobby Friction from that well known airwave blocker, Radio 1 will be there as well as Sonny Ji from BBC Asian Network.
Spice up the dull arrival of the autumn weather, and see www.samafestival.org for full listings of the weeks events.
