Student flashmob at Newcastle Monument tomorrow

Part Flashmob, part Fresher’s Week prank, part educational campaign - tomorrow’s gathering at the foot of Grey’s Monument in Newcastle is a mongrel of an event, but it should be one that makes for an interesting photo opportunity.
The 2008 Common Book Project is a Newcastle University campus-wide reading campaign, to get all students and staff reading and talking about the same book.
The novel in this instance is Half of a Yellow Sun by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It’s not the happiest of tales, but you hardly expect Roger the Dodger and Bunti when you go to uni, now do you?
Back to the plot, namely that of the Flashmob; the aim is to get as many people as possible sitting at the Monument reading the book and wearing a t-shirt promoting the project at midday tomorrow.
It’s a far gentler Flashmob than Newcastle is used to, but feel free to pop along if you fancy getting involved. There are more details on Facebook here.
