Newcastle’s live music, w/c 8th September

It’s slim pickins while the student-free days of the dreary summer are washed away, so until the buzzing excitement of Newcastle’s live music scene picks up again, here’s what’s on offer this week.
Today A marriage of emo and indie gives birth to the super hyped and aesthetically praised Lights! Action! who are playing Academy 2 with support from A Silent Film and a Glaswegian 5-piece who also go by an imperatively inspired name of Think! Fire!.
Tomorrow They’ve been the pride of pretty much every festival going this summer, but funky, guitar-free London lads, Golden Silvers play Academy 2 this time, which is most definitely the grooviest thing you could get up to on a Tuesday night.
Wednesday 10th This City, a Brighton and indie-hardcore creation stand in for what was Conflict, which has now been re-scheduled to 20th September at Academy 2. If you’re taste is a little bit more country however, Newcastle City Hall have a treat for you, with Emmylou Harris and Kimmie Rhodes.
Thursday 11th The Cluny gig for the week is soul inspired Birmingham talent Bryn Christopher.
Friday 12th The ear bleeding, aurally antagonistic F.A.T.E, who in their own words would like to “slap the shit out of any unsuspecting metal world”, will go down really well in The Carling Academy on a Friday we reckon. Influences of the band include Dying Foetus, Cannibal Corpse and Misery Signals. Light relief, should you need it, may come in the form of Hot Club of Cowtown at The Sage, if Texan, hot-jazz and swing is your bag.
Saturday 13th Having deafened most of their staff from last night, The Carling Academy in Newcastle have Trigger the Bloodshed, Bleed from Within plus other support for tonight’s entertainment. But if the idea of this literally drives you mental, take a more relaxed position in an arty, vintage chair in Nancy’s Bordello for their Acoustic Jukebox with Dave Fudge.
Sunday 14th If you haven’t really felt the racket of the weekend, try The Sage where Kurt Wagner, one part of thoughtful indie get-up Lambchop, will be performing a solo gig.

Really like this idea, one more reason to keep subscribed to NewcastleEcentric
One slight suggestion though, sometimes a weekly roundup is a bit short notice to arrange free time / tickets sold out etc - would a monthly roundup be doable?

Good idea. We’ll start doing that for October - we’ll look at the month ahead on the last Monday of previous month.
Cheers!
