Mystery surrounds the identity of a body found floating in the River Tyne earlier today.
Northumbria Police were contacted by a member of the public just after 8am, after seeing the body of the middle-aged man in the river, near Newcastle’s Quayside.
A police spokesperson described the man as about 5′ 4″, medium build with short grey hair. He was wearing a blue sweat shirt, black trousers, dark socks and black shoes.
Police have no information as to how or when the man fell in the river and are appealing for witnesses.
