Today’s Chronicle reports that a cannibis farm worth tens of thousands of pounds has been found in Gateshead.

Around 40 plants were discovered by police to be growing in the flat in Bensham’s Rectory Road.

According to the paper, officers were called last night after neighbours in the flat below reported water leaking from the property above.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “At around 5.30pm yesterday a cannabis farm was discovered in Rectory Road, Gateshead.

“No-one was in the property above, but officers said they thought they could smell something and a lot of heat was coming from the property.”

The door was broken down to gain entry and 40 cannabis plants were found growing inside.”

“There was a sophisticated irrigation system and an advanced hydroponics light set-up.”
