Exclusive - details of 300 BNP members in Tyne & Wear leaked
By Paul Smith • Nov 19th, 2008 • Category: news
You may be a proud BNP supporter or you may prefer to keep it a secret. After all, you might be an advisor to the council or a policeman, or in a similarly sensitive role.
Either way, everyone knows your political leanings now; a list of nearly 13,000 BNP supporters, activists and contacts has been leaked online by an anonymous source.
Although the story is only just breaking in the mainstream media the list appeared on Blogger last night, though its validity was not then known. Statements released by officials on behalf of the right-wing party this morning have confirmed its authenticity.
The list includes the names, address and other personal information of activists, supporters and recent contacts - individuals who are not supporters of the BNP, but have had correspondence with the party.
While the list has now been removed from the blog it was published on, newcastlecentric.com received a copy last night. So how does Newcastle, Sunderland and the rest of Tyne & Wear fare?
On the list are around 300 names and addresses of contacts with Tyne & Wear postcodes. In several instances, members as young as 16-years-old are registered where families have party membership. Also according to the list, there are two households in Fenham and Gateshead where five BNP members are registered as living at the same address.
On the BNP website, leader Nick Griffin claims the list to be outdated and that some people “appeared to have had their names maliciously added by whoever was responsible for the blog posting.”

Just because people are members of the BNP doesn’t mean they’re inherently racist and/or violent however.
I’d be willing to bet that a lot of people are members of the BNP not because they support the completely right-wing and ridiculous views, but because the BNP is the only party who speak out about immigration issues that other parties tend to avoid or dumb down for the sake of political correctness (whether it be correct or not).
I imagine if there wasn’t so much of a stigma attached to being a BNP member (admittedly a lot of it brought on themselves), then there would probably be many more people signed up. I know a lot of people who have issues with immigration and favouring of migrants, but keep quiet for fear of being labelled racist.
Perhaps the more accepted parties need to listen to their constituents a bit more, and not attach a stigma to so-called “out of place” views which, actually, are surprisingly common amongst most working class people (either through ignorance or actual concern).
Just to be clear, I am NOT racist, nor am I a member of the BNP because frankly some of their views are ridiculous not to mention a disgusting history - but I can understand why some people might be members of the organisation even if they only partly support their causes.
As somebody who had to CHANGE HER NAME because my details were leaked online by somebody I seriously pity all of these people. Just because they are members of a politicial party that we do not agree with we have the right to victimise them and publish their information like this?
It’s disgusting. The only thing this list will be useful for is for when you are campaigning and don’t want to knock on the wrong doors! In which case you’d have a prior list of voters preferences from previous years canvassing anyway…
Appalling.
This is a breach of privacy, through which those affected musty have recourse through law.
However in the big scheme of things, I can’t see what the fuss is about. I would assume that anybody who is politically active enough to join a party is proud of their association and wouldn’t want to deny it. Surely we do not live in such a fascist state that members of certain professions cannot be member of the BNP. For example I would have no problem with a school teacher of such an affiliation teaching my child. Of course I am working from the assumption that there political views stayed out of the classroom and they stuck to the national curriculum. This is no more of an expectation than I would have of a teacher that was a life long lib-dem supporter.
Having said all of this, I’d still give any BNP supporter short shrift if they cared to call at my door canvassing support!
Also 300 from the North East. How many of these where already in the public domain? i.e. had stood at some time another for local / national elections. Maybe the number of “outed” people is somewhat smaller.
Thanks for tweeting this Paul. It was interesting to watch the story break across the web.
@Rob KIrton
Hey Rob, I’d love to hear more about how you think teachers, police officers and others with significant influence over the general public are able to shed their strongly held political beliefs at the entrance to their workplace, because I happen to think that it’s impossible to do, which is why BNP members aren’t ideal candidates for such jobs.
@RandomTwinkleUser. I understand what you are saying. However if it is not possible for teachers to leave their political beliefs at the door and just stick to the knitting, i.e. the curriculum. We have a severe problem. My kids could be equally indoctrinated with Tory / Labour / Lib-Dem propaganda. None of which is acceptable.
If a Teacher / Policemen is proven to be bringing to bear their political beliefs by means of their job, then they should be dismissed.
The nu age fascists amongst us are those who profess to to be liberal with small “L”, however cannot stand to have others express thoughts other than those largely in tune with themselves. If we as nation put forward better arguments than those espoused by the BNP, we have severe problems.
You might say I’m being too idealistic. However without ideals and allowing others to maintain theirs as well , you can easily slide into a fascist state. Lets keep all political parties engaged in the democratic process. The ballot box will then always rule over the gun
If you were of an ethnic minority you wouldnt be complaining. Members of the BNP are a disgrace to this country. If there were a party of such a disgrace such as this against Irish or Scotish people, as examples, there would be the biggest uproar in history. They know that their party is WRONG that’s why they are all ashamed about their details being “leaked” because they know that someone out there will get them…
Level headed post Rob.
The so called “leak” of the list was an attempt by the Criminal Labour establishment to intimidate BNP members out of renewing their memberships in 2009. It was also an incitement to violence against BNP members! Indeed in the first few days after the “leak” a handfull of BNP members had their propertys attacked. Including one on Tyneside. (Though just minor acts of vandalism) However once the BNP legal team issued writs against the Organisations that were publishing the lists, (including some Police forces) the membership lists were removed from the internet. The intimidation stoped? Proving that it was State orchestrated! The Labour Party inspired “leak” of the list has backfired spectacually. I will admit at first i was dismayed at the leak, however it has now turned out to be a huge propaganda coup for the BNP. The average British person now knows we are the “underdog” who the Lib-Lab-Con establishment unites in opposing. The Briitsh “love an underdog”. Since the “leak” the resulting publicity has sent our Website visits soaring! We were allready the most visited politcal website in Britain, now we are even more popular. My comrades in the Membership department tell me that they are inundated with new membership inquiries, and renewels! Our membership is soaring thanks to the “leak” More want to be proud members of the “list” Indeed a few of my fellow activists who were not on the list, were rather envious of those of us who were! We are getting T-Shirts printed to mark the occasion. To be on the “list” will be a badge of honour. It will allso generate lots of funds for the BNP. 13.000 X £10. The “leak” has allso spured on many inactive BNP members to become active now! “Out and proud” so to speak. The BNP is thrieving all over Britain, the Northeast (establishment) media ignored it, but we came within 2 votes of winning a Council seat in a solid Labour seat in Shildon Co Durham on December 11th. The Labour activists faces were a picture when the results came in.! We will win in the Northeast very soon. In another close second we reduced a Labour majority off 1017 down to 15. 2009 will be breakthru year in the EURO Elections too. The BNP look set to gain seats. The “leak” like all the other Criminal, undemocratic attempts to “stop the BNP” have failed. We are spured on to even more activity. every day somewhere in the Northeast BNP activists are out ther spreading the word. We are living in interesting times. Uncontrolled (Labour Party assisited) 3rd world immigrartion, and the onset of this huge recesion, have got the British people questioning their old party loyaltys? We are getting a fantastic feedback, whilst out cannvassing and leafleting. The tide is turning, the BNPs peacefull revoloution is gathering pace! The CRIMINAL, CORRUPT, WARMONGERING, SLEEZE RIDDEN, ESTABLISHMENT will never stop us!
OUR TIME IS COMING!
“During a time of change, the Patriot is a scarce man. He is hated and scorned. When his cause suceeds however, the timid join him. For then it cost nothing to be a patriot”
Robert Blatchford. Gateshead BNP activist, and proud “list” member. Jan 3rd 2009
The BNP should have all the rights given to other political partys no more no less . This membership data being released and the media reaction looks like a big step forward in the Labour dictatorship project other non Labour supporters should be very worried who’s next if we dont all make a stand for the rights of BNP members now .
I’m not ashamed of being a member of the BNP. Unfortunately I’m not on the list since I just joined during the summer of 2008. My husband is on the list, only his details are all wrong since the list is old and outdated. This past year, the BNP has had approximately 500 new members every three to four weeks. That is just new members, and doesn’t count all the popular support from the public.
