- A driver was killed on the A1M this morning after a stolen car being chased by police flipped over onto the other side of the motorway and crashed into oncoming traffic.

 - Two men have been arrested after a shotgun was found at the scene of car crash in Gateshead

- A Sunderland family got an unwanted wake up call this morning when a car crashed into the side of their house.

- Contrasting yesterday’s, and just about every other day’s news, today we are told that the North East is one of the safest places to live in the UK.

- Will the Northern Rock fiasco ever end? Today a multi million pound hedge fund owner told The Journal that MPs had stolen the bank and the lives of investors. Is it just us or does no-one seem to understand how shares work anymore?

- As the two day strike has come to an end you can head back into the city centre, safe in the knowledge that the bins will have been emptied and the streets cleaned.

- If you were down by the Quayside today don’t worry you’re not due in for a mental health check up just yet, that really was a family of elephants you saw.
