Newcastle news - a wheely good day, a wheely bad deal

- The Tour of Britain cycling race came to the North East for the first time yesterday. Stage six of the race began in Darlington, taking in a still-soggy Northumberland before finishing Gateshead Quays.
- So is Keegan to be the next manager of Newcastle United? In a word? No. Last night’s meeting between the former manager and Mike Ashley unsurprisingly came to nothing. NUFC.com reported “discussions between Kevin Keegan and Newcastle owner Mike Ashley fail to reach satisfactory conclusion” . Their source was the League Managers Association, via Sky.
- A man used a kitchen knife to carry out an armed robbery at a petrol station on Stoddard Street in Shieldfield yesterday.
- Police hunting the killers of a Zhen Xing Yang and Xi Zhou are following up new leads after Thursday night’s reconstruction on Crimewatch.
- Reg Vardy was found guilty of misleading customers with a 0 per cent finance scheme at Gateshead Magistrates’ Court this week. A customer bought a car from the company after hearing a radio ad for the offer, but somehow ended up paying 4.2 per cent interest.
