- Alan Shearer last night cut the ribbon on the official re-opening of M Steel Cycles in Gosforth, one of the oldest bike shops in the UK. The store was founded in 1894 and is owned by another Tyneside sporting legend, Joe Waugh, an Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medalist.
- Police in South Tyneside are recommending that bars ban customers from wearing their club colours immediately after tomorrow’s Tyne-Wear derby.
- Northern Rock has come under fire for a bonus scheme rewarding staff for repossessions. The bank’s workers could earn an extra 60% of their annual salary in bonuses over the next few years.
- As if a night out in Whitley Bay couldn’t get any more appealing, Vi nightclub are offering chlamydia tests next Thursday evening. No mention of free colonic irrigation, but they’re probably saving it for customers who buy four bottles of blue WKD.
