- A man from Jarrow is due to appear in court today charged with drug smuggling offences after cocaine with a street value of more than £5m was seized off the British coast.
- Three kidnappers who held a building contractor ransom at gunpoint have had more than £170,000 of their criminal cash confiscated by police.
- Clubbers in Vogue and Dusk in South Shields were scanned for knives and other weapons over the weekend as part of a crackdown on violent crime.
- Mike Ashley has made a hush-hush trip to Dubai to try and sell Newcastle United. According to the Chronicle, Ashley and United vice-president Tony Jimenez travelled to the Middle East to try and persuade Sheikh Mohammed’s Dubai International Capital Group that the club is an attractive proposition.
