- One of the country’s top rail bosses has told the Government to back a high-speed link for the North, that would see European-style trains slash journey times from Newcastle to London to as little as two hours.
- Newcastle is doing miserably at something other than football. Fortunately, it’s good news this time - Newcastle is the 166th most spammed place in the country. Hurrah.
- A call centre operator has announced plans to recruit hundreds more staff on North Tyneside.
- One of Newcastle’s most prolific gangs has been jailed, after burgling nearly 50 properties across Jesmond and Heaton.
- Thanks to several newcastlecentric.com readers, we were the first website in the country to break the news that Paul Gascoigne hadn’t been found dead in the Gateshead Hilton. Or the Marriott. Or Scotland. The fact that Gazza isn’t dead is now common knowledge, but in those first uncertain hours the site’s traffic jumped 1000 per cent as people tried to discover the truth.
