what’s going on in newcastle and tyneside

Newcastle news - hunka hunka burning love (aiieeee!)

- Hurrah for Trevor Clark from Ashington! He’s only gone and won Morpeth’s best Elvis look-a-like contest. Disappointingly, he wasn’t the best dressed Elvis - that was window cleaner Derek Henry, obviously. And both of them couldn’t hold a tune compared to Michael Chambers from Ellington.

- Two men have been charged in connection with an armed raid at Coral betting shop on Beacon Lough Road in Gateshead last Wednesday.

- Meanwhile, police in South Shields investigating three betting shop raids over the last two weeks say they could all be linked to the same two suspects – a man and woman from outside the area.

- The majority of GP practices in Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland are now extending their opening hours in an effort to give patients more flexibility of when they can have an appointment.
