- People living in Gateshead’s Henderson Road have been ordered by the council to get rid of their resident wandering cockerel, which was adopted by the street as a chick.

- A Jarrow robber who doused a good Samaritan in petrol then threatened to “roast him” and flicked a lighter in his face, has been jailed for almost six years.

- An award of £4.5 million from the Lottery fund to parks in Tyneside means that the Ouseburn parks - including Jesmond Dene and Heaton park - will see over £6 million invested in restoration projects and a new visitor centre.

- A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman on South Tyneside.
