what’s going on in newcastle and tyneside

Newcastle news - printing and sprinting

- Still overly excitable about the Olympics? Get your fix this weekend; several Olympic champions have been confirmed for the Aviva British Grand Prix at Gateshead on Sunday.

- Rodney Gordon, architect of many desperately ugly buildings across the land including Gateshead’s Trinity car park (you know the one) and Derwent Tower, has died at the age of 75.

- Alcohol could be banned in public across a large part of South Shields if a move by Northumbria Police to clean up the streets is successful.

- Another local company has gone to the wall; Reed Print & Design in Washington has gone into administration in its 40th year; 148 jobs are on the line.

Good to see other firms offering to help out those who may lose their jobs on an industry website, although we’re reasonably sure that’s not David Brent on there, what with him being a fictional entity and all that.
