-A web designer turned ufologist from Sunniside has written a book about how Governments are trying to keep secret the existence of aliens.

Richard Hall told the Northern Echo“The cover-up has gone on from 1947 and I believe it was why John F Kennedy was murdered because he wanted the information on UFOs to be released to the public.” 

- Star Trek legend Patrick Stewart has proved a bigger draw in South Shields than Tony Blair.

- The likely future of the Tyne and Wear Metro system will be explained at a public meeting in Newcastle later totoday. A massive reinvigoration of the system, support for a passenger train service between Newcastle and Ashington and the reinstatement of the mothballed Leamside Line are among some of the matters being considered.

- Newcastle Building Society is predicting a growth in pre-paid cards to help people manage their money during the recession.
