Newcastle third most popular for L-plates and fairies

Six years ago, an American travel firm declared Newcastle the eighth best party city on the planet. Newcastle reacted to the news by doing what it did best - hitting the bottle big time and picking a fight at the taxi rank.
Newcastle isn’t a city where nightlife that’s so about party or club culture, it’s about drink culture. When Newcastle goes to town, it goes to get smashed, and no amount of upmarket bars or nationally revered club nights are going to stop it puking in the gutter.
It’s a little harsh, but you know what we mean. Newcastle likes a drink and it likes a party, which is why it finds itself the third favourite destination for stag and hen parties.
Only third? Yes, London is booking up the Premier Inn rooms at number one and Manchester is dancing on the tables in second place. Not that you’d know it walking down Side on a Friday night; the street is awash with blokes from Huddersfield in superhero costumes.
The survey also reveals that five years ago, over half of the countries stag and hen parties were abroad. Now it’s just 16 per cent.
In case you’ve got a pre-wedding bash coming up and a night in Blu Bamboo isn’t cosmopolitan enough, here’s the top ten favourites in full: 1. London; 2. Manchester; 3. Newcastle; 4. Edinburgh; 5. Birmingham; 6. Leeds; 7. Glasgow; 8. Bristol; 9. Liverpool; 10. Bath.
