People living in Newcastle are “filthy” - but not in that way

We’d probably enjoy a reputation the most sexually adventurous folk in the country, and we may well be. Today, research has proven we’re certainly the dirtiest, but sadly not between the sheets.
A study has found that the hands of people from Newcastle are up to three times more likely to be contaminated with toilet bugs than those of Londoners.
The most likely explanation? We don’t bother washing our hands after dropping the kids off at the pool.
If the research had been conducted on an evening, you’d put it down to avoiding toilet attendants and their perfumeries. However, samples from people’s hands were taken from commuters at Newcastle’s Central Station on weekday mornings. Bah.
Dr Val Curtis, who led the study, said: “We were flabbergasted by the finding that so many people had faecal bugs on their hands.
“If any of these people had been suffering from diarrhoea disease, the potential for it to be passed around would be greatly increased by their failure to wash their hands after going to the toilet.”
You dirty, dirty people. Now go wash your hands.
