Taxi firm supports BNP in Tyneside by mistake

If random members of the public are going to stick notices in your window, always best to read them first.
Express Taxis in Jarrow were going about their business, presumably that of taking people places, when South Tyneside council called.
They didn’t want to go anywhere, but did want to know why the head office of Express Taxis was displaying posters for the British National Party in Tyneside.
The Shields Gazette reports that a member of the South Tyneside Coalition Against Racism spotted the posters (which contained “controversial views”), and wrote to South Tyneside councillors expressing their concern.
Seemingly a member of the public had asked for the posters to be displayed, and staff had agreed. The material was removed after the council contacted Express Taxi’s manager.
The article goes on to quote a councillor stating that the company had been “grossly irresponsible” in allowing the posters to be displayed, as well as a BNP spokesperson who points out that displaying political material isn’t illegal.
