UFOs over South Shields and the coastguard conspiracy

By Paul Smith • Aug 26th, 2008 • Category: news

The truth is out there. Over South Shields, in fact. At least it was at the weekend.

Coastguards were called out at the weekend after members of the public reported lights in the sky, off the Wearside and Marsden coast.

The Shields Gazette reports the crew were alerted just before 9.30pm on Saturday. They promptly searched the coast from South Shields to Sunderland, but found no evidence of unusual aircraft, secret vessels or spiny blue telephone boxes. Boo.

A coastguard spokesman told the paper: “Our reports came from inland locations and suggested that distress flares might have been fired.

“There are several possible explanations for the sightings, including a full red-coloured moon partly shrouded by cloud, fireworks and commercial aircraft activity.”

Except the spokesman didn’t check his facts, did he? The moon was only half full on Saturday night, and rose some three hours after the sightings.

A genuine mistake? Or a failed attempt to cover the Machiavellian plot of the evil lizard people?

  1. You’re using Woodlands Junior School in Kent as a source… Maybe they’re part of the conspiracy?

  2. They were first in a Google search to provide an accurate lunar calendar.

Yes, Google too. All the way to the top, my friend. All the way to the top.

  4. I was getting a lift home from Roker to South Shields on Saturday night at 10 o’clock and I looked out the car window and in the Sky where about 7 bright orange balls of light all in a row spaced out at regular intervalsl.I have been watching the sky all my life as a I have always been interested in Astronomy and I have never seen this sort of thing before,I know it was not the moon, have ruled out fllares because they were not moving and you could not see any smoke from them, they were not aircraft because of no flashing nav lights or sound,
As we travelled to about whitburn the lights started blinking out and there was only about two left. The only explanation is that it could be chinese paper lanterns but they seemed far to bright for that.I hope there is a explanation because they had me curious as to what they were…………………………Laurence
