- A man in Kenton has torched his own house just weeks after he covered himself in petrol and threatened to turn himself into a human fireball.
- Hundreds of council workers have begun their 48 hour strike over a below inflation pay offer.
- Gateshead’s Queen Elizabeth hospital has been warned over it’s MRSA infection rates.
- A local delivery driver who caused a train crash in Northumberland has escaped jail.
- Major roadworks at the Team Valley are due to start on Saturday evening. The work is expected to finish on Thursday morning, but the main road through the Team Valley will be closed overnight.
- Pete Doherty’s manager has claimed that Pete’s recent no show at the Cluny was down to his promoter jumping the gun to book the venue.
- Newcastle based band Cained have been signed by a label set up by Madonna. Their break came when the singer met Bee Gee Barry Gibb whilst in London. Thats showbiz for you.
- In football news former Newcastle United player Robbie Elliot has returned to the club to join the coaching staff.
- And the River Tyne’s eighth bridge has been completed. Although as it’s mainly bamboo you can’t actually use it.
