Baja Beach Club closes tonight

And now, the end is near. And so we face the final curtain. It’s more of a strobe light than a curtain, to be honest. And watch you don’t slip in the spilt Barcardi Breezer.
The marmite of Newcastle’s nightlife - you either loved it or wanted to see it bombed to bits - Baja Beach Club closes its doors forever tonight, leaving so many of us with nothing but memories of bottle tubs and The Foundations played at ear-piercing volume every half hour.
The club, which has operated on Gateshead Quays for a decade, was at one time open four nights a week and once won “UK Discotheque of the Year”. In recent months, Baja has only opened on Friday and Saturday nights.
Expect an epic night of partying, before Baja Beach Club calls last orders and staggers outside for a broiled hamburger at the top of the Swing bridge and instead finds a fight for a taxi.
Love it or hate it, it’s cause for celebration. See you there? Oh.
