Exclusive - Tup Tup Palace to be relaunched as Michi
By Paul Smith • Sep 9th, 2008 • Category: nightlife
We reported at the beginning of last month that Newcastle’s Tup Tup Palace was already in the hands of adminstrators, barely nine months after launching.
A long list of suppliers received letters from the administrators concerning unpaid bills, some totalling thousands of pounds. Pathfinder Ventures spent £2 million launching the venue at the end of last year.
While the bar has continued trading, the lease for the business has been sold to Tokyo Industries who also operate Toyko and Digital in the city.
According to sources, the troubled venue will be relaunched as Michi Newcastle in the coming weeks, although there’s no word as to whether the bar will close for refurbishment. The first stage of the revamp begins next Friday with new menus and entertainment.

This is a bit disappointing to hear I’ve just recently started going to Tup Tup Palace (although that is an awful name, in my opinion) and enjoyed it because it wasn’t as busy as other places. Then again they like everyone else need to pay the bills, hope it turns out well since The Forth and The Newcastle Alms aren’t nightclubs :P.
That would explain a lot, I work close by and I have only been there the once and found it over priced. I supposed that probably means the end of the fabled monohotel with its midget concierge, upstairs.
